Tuesday deadline? True?

A Tulane 2L reports to me that she got an email telling her that she must be enrolled in another law school by Tuesday, 9/6, if she is to be permitted to complete this year of school. (Note from blog owner: I have not myself seen such a hard-and-fast rule anywhere, though I have seen many schools express a preference that students arrive and begin work ASAP b/c their semesters have already begun.)

This is placing great stress on her, as one might imagine. Apparently she is living in a van on I-95 somewhere, and is not in a great position to be making the necessary arrangements.

Does anyone know whether the information that she received is true? Please post a reply here, or send an email to tulanelaw@isthatlegal.org.

I am in search of Trina Olidge, a very dear friend who is an Assistant Dean for Tulane Law School. Does anyone know how I can reach her via email? I emailed her at tolidge@law.tulane.edu to no avail. Please help me contact her. ddsaddler@netscape.net

I read your Sept 3 post about a law student living on I-95. I am a 3L at Notre Dame Law School and may be able to provide some information on our school's plan for visiting law students.

Our school's official word is that they want the visiting students to begin their classes by Friday, Sept 9, but the rumor floating around here is that w/ extenuating circumstances they may allow people to begin the following week.

Our student bar association is set up to help students make arrangements to come here, so that may be less of a delay than students expect. Our students are eager to help the visiting students make arrangements and settle in. We have a point person to set up housing for them (we have many students willing to offer free housing, either temporarily or for the year). The students are organizing a "visiting student orientation" and a network of people to provide class notes to help visiting students catch up. We're also willing to help with meal plans, groceries, furniture, clothing, etc. Also, in case students have not yet heard, West and some other major publishers are donating textbooks, so the students don't have to pay for those a second time.

Our school's website is http://www.law.nd.edu
The contact person for Tulane and Loyola law students considering ND Law is Director of Student Services Peter Horvath (Peter.F.Horvath.50@nd.edu).

Let me know if you have any more questions that I can answer from a student perspective.

Our school's "official policy" (such as it is) is that we want visiting students to be able to start class by 9/12.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your friends and families, and all of those whose lives have been turned upside-down by Katrina and her aftermath.

I dont know where on I-95 she is, but if she wants to come to South Carolina she can. Our Dean of Admissions is telling everyone who wants to visit at USC to show up in his office at 9am on Tuesday. We are doing our best to arrange temporary and permanent housing for whoever comes. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

Oh yea, and if she needs a place to stay immediately, and is near South Carolina, I have a spare bedroom. Whether she wants to enroll here or not, she can stay with me till she sorts things out. My email address is baileyee@mailbox.sc.edu. That is usually the best and quickest way to contact me.
