The Day The Music Died. Again.
I agree. By the time Thomas Dolby went into the ring-tone business ("Science!"), it was long since over.
UPDATE: Holy crap. I just learned that it's Thomas Dolby playing the synthesizers on Foreigner's "I've Been Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "Urgent." This is deeply unsettling.

i dunno. seems to me that thomas dolby and ring tones are a natural fit. perhaps not as natural as gary numan and ringtones, but right up there.
(and with the right equipment, you can buy a cd, rip a song, snip it up, convert it to the proper format, and upload it to your phone for your very own.)

Now wait a minute, Dolby redeemed himself in 1985 when he produced Prefab Sprout's debut effort, Two Wheels Good (which... sounded an awful lot like New Wave Cole Porter).
