Between my work schedule, the weather, and my health, I only managed one night to really try to see this comet: Saturday, January 13. The websites were only willing to say the comet *might* still be visible on that day.

I drove up the Angeles Crest Highway a few miles and found a turnout with a relatively clear western horizon. About a dozen other cars were already there. Many folks stayed in their car and enjoyed the view from inside (it was cold, by S. CA standards).

Nifty view. The head and tail were only a few degrees long. But, given the brightness of the sky, they were probably still mag -7 or so. Had the sky been dark, this comet would have been astounding. And it may yet be astounding for folks in the southern hemisphere. For me, I only got about a ten minute view. But it was fun sharing the moment with so many strangers on a highway turnout.

After the comet set, the turnout emptied, and all of us Angelenos headed off, returning to our own private lives.
