Three cheers for peaceful transitions of power!

When I first saw this post I was going to comment cynically that we haven't actually seen the transfer of power yet - all we know is that it's supposed to happen.
But on reflection I realized that a sigh of relief was still in order. The biggest problem with the last few years has the marginalization, criminalization, and disenfranchisement of dissent. That those who currently had power could seemingly use that power to cement it permanently. A true nightmare scenario, as it would mark the end of our democratic nation if they did.
So just knowing that the nightmare hasn't come to pass, that there was still at least a little opening to wedge in countervailing views and loosen the incumbent's grip on power, makes me feel much better.
It *is* an amazing thing that just happened. Not because it's a Democratic/Republican thing, but because it is a peaceful transfer of power. It's precious, it's special, it's American, and it's worth celebrating.
