Could Wyoming Send a Democrat to the House of Representatives?
The election pits six-term Congresswoman Barbara Cubin against newcomer Gary Trauner, a Jackson, WY, businessman.
She is a non-stop embarrassment as a member of Congress (I say this as a former Wyoming resident). It is true that she has been a champion for the unborn, but for the born she has been pretty much of a dismal failure from the get-go. Indeed, even before the get-go.
More than that, though, she is a hypocrite: elected in 1994 on a promise to serve no more than six terms, she is now running for her seventh.
This is a race worth watching.

You can find an excellent interview of Gary Trauner here:

Unfortunately, the candidate looks eerily similar to Jeff Gannon, but perhaps Wyoming's voters won't notice... :)

First, can we stop gasping in horror at Cubin's old, old peckercookie gag? If we're the progressive hepcats we claim to be, such ribaldry ought to be plus. She is plenty vulnerable in areas of substance.
As for Trauner, he is the very person the Founding Fathers had in mind for representative government. Once Wyoming gets a good look at him, he's golden. He's sharp enough to beat the GOP smear machine -- I can hear those gears grinding into first right now.
Tranuer's two biggest obstacles: winning by a large enough margin in case the Diebold virus advances west, and tone-deaf DNC consultants "helping." They already hung their insipid, mealy-mouthed flyer on my door on Gary's behalf.
Note to DNC: nothing says "shady direct-mail operation" like a pretend-handwriting font.
[ELM: David, I'd stop gasping in horror, but I never started. I'm not horrified by her passing around those cockies; I just find it immature and juvenile and shallow and revealing. And, for such a moralizer, hypocritical.]

Didn't mean to imply you were gasping in horror, Eric. But others have, and will. Bob Schuster's campaign tried to make a big issue of those anatomically-correct baked goods. Backfired. (Good ol' consultants . . . .)
"Hypocrisy" and "modern Republicanism" are synonyms. Sometimes hypocrisy charges sucker us into a Mobius band of righteousness. Mock, don't tsk. Immature/juvenile/shallow can be dumb fun. I defend dumb fun after-hours, even for the elected, because . . . I'm liberal!
I propose beating Cubin by saying, "Whatever happened to that fun-loving gal who know how to symbolize female empowement?"
I hope Gary is confronted with this so he can say, "Barbara has the right to masticate flour and sugar in any shape she feels like."
