Our Virile Leaders.

S
o the Vice President, out on a hunt, pumps a load of birdshot into somebody's face.

He goes on television to "take responsibility" for having done it.

And the words that the President chooses to describe the Vice President's explanation? "Powerful." And "strong." Even "very strong."

Strong. Powerful. Taking responsibility. Very strong.

Brought to you by Karl Rove, Minister of Semiotics.

Good message management, though. Because every one knows that it's the first impression sticks, they first got their underlings to blame the victim for literally stepping out of line. This lets them have it both ways: Cheney can "take responsibility," while at the same time having everyone else "know" that "It wasn't really his fault."

And, yes, apparently someone told the President to emphasize "strength" and "power" in response to any questions about the Vice President's statement. So the President focused like a laser beam on that message.

With the whole transcript, he looks like a doofus. But once it's edited prepared for broadcast, there he is, staying on message.

And Charles Krauthammer said that the V.P. was "manly" for waiting a half a day before reporting the incident.

Eric:

Did you note the purpose of C*ck Cheney's declassification meme to Britt Hume.

Set aside the lie.

Cheney's set off a debate whether Libby was merely doing Cheney's bidding in outing Plame and doing so without violating the law.

That line of thinking has been picked up in the MSM, including on "The Newhour" -- where Lehrer suggests to Shields that Libby really may have a viable defense. Remarkably, it was Rich Lowry who, in closing, mentioned that Libby is charged with perjury/obstruc./false st'ts.

What am I missing here?

Libby freakin' lied. Period.

Oh, is the argument now that Libby had no motive because the info was declassified -- a dubious proposition itself?

All the better, then. He had nothing to hide when he manufacturered from whole cloth conversations that never occurred.

F*CK ALL OF THEM!!!
