A Shaggy Reptile Story?

A
n emeritus colleague of mine, who was on the faculty of the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in the mid-1950s, told me at lunch today that the law school at that time had a live alligator in a pond in the courtyard. Its name was Williston.

Could he have been pulling my leg?

It gets pretty cold in Fayetteville in the winter. I used to teach there (Engineering), and remember the occasional below zero temperature.

Maybe they let the gator roam the halls indoors during the cold months ;-)

I do not know about that particular pond, but at the University of Florida, any body of fresh water had an aligator in it at some point. The docile aligator is no threat to humans unless provoked.
