Photoshop help?

I
'm new to Photoshop, and trying to do something so basic: I've got a canvas that's 3" by 5", and I've got several layers of text on it, and now I'm trying to position an image (a digital photo I took that's in jpg format) on the canvas too. I understand that I'm probably supposed to have the image be in a separate layer, but I can't figure out either (a) how to cut and paste the image onto that layer, or, once it's there, (b) how to resize it and make it small so that it's sitting down in the corner of the canvas rather than occupying the whole thing. Suggestions appreciated.

This isn't that hard.

1. Make the photo about the same size as your 3x5 canvas. (Image/Image size)

2. With the photo, press CTRL+A (select all), then CTRL+C (copy).

3. Click on your 3x5 canvas. Click on the layer that you want this photo to be above.

4. Press CTRL+V (paste).

your photo should be centered on your canvas and on the right layer. (you can drag layers around).

Concepts used:

size your new photo first to paste onto the canvas. (can be done later, but is advanced)

CTRL+ keystrokes (I'm an old keyboard person. Use CMD if you're using a Mac).

Email me if you're having tsouris.

I re-read what you wrote. You want your photo to be small. Make it the approx right size first, copy & paste as above (or below).

Click on the photo layer in the 3x5 canvas and switch to the MOVE tool. Move the photo where you want it to be.

If you don't have the size correct after you paste, click on the photo layer (in the layers list) and then CTRL+T (transform). Drag the little corner handles to the size you want. Hold SHIFT to keep it constrained to size.

TMI? (too much information?)

If you find that it's going onto a layer you don't want it to go onto, go to the layers palate. You should find that there's a little icon in the bottom of the palate next to the trash can for that palate that looks like a post-it pad with the top post-it being torn off. clicking that will insert a new layer on top of whatever layer you're already on. You can click-hold-and-drag in the layer palate in order to reposition layers with respect to each other. When you have the photo there, you can select it and then shrink or grow it by going to edit->transform->scale.

Got it done yet?

Open JPG in Photoshop.

Selec All (Cmd A) or Windows =

Select other document

Paste (Cmd V). Note that pasting creates a new layer.

Resize using Transform (Cmd T). Drag any corner handle WITH SHIFT KEY DOWN to keep proportions.

If the pasted image is too large, size in down first (Transform) then copy-paste.
