Neither is Hercule Poirot to Be Trusted.

F
rom this story, a reasonably cautious person who is not stuck in a September 10 mindset can conclude only one thing: It's internment time for Kim Clijsters and Lara Fabian.

Oooh! Oooh! Intern me too! I'm pretty sure I can scare up a suspicious ancester or two from the family history.

Me and Kim and Lara, locked away someplace very remote and desolate for the duration. Who knew Michelle Malkin was such a genius?

At first I wondered: Why does Belgium Hate Us?

Then I remembered: We've had nearly 600 U.S. troops at NATO HQ since the late 1940s. Yes, that's right! Belgium is an occupied country! That explains it all.

US Out of Occupied Belgium, Now!

I've been reading Histori-blogography for over a year and only now find out that there was another place where I could read more Chris Bray. Why doesn't anybody tell me these things?

One measly exception to an otherwise perfectly sound rule does not automatically invalidate the rule, as your post suggests. On the contrary, a discrete, occasional exception can bolster a rule’s validity by demonstrating that the rule always operates as predicted except under a narrow set of circumstances. So far, the rule seems to be that, for a variety of complicated reasons, only Muslims from the Middle East and North Africa, or their disaffected descendents in western countries, commit suicide bombings. Of course, the vast majority of these people are not potential suicide bombers, but this is the pool from which, until last month, ALL past bombers have been drawn. But now we have an exception to this general principle: Persons not born into a Muslim culture are susceptible to the logic of suicide bombing if they associate with Islamofascists (big surprise). But as yet few westerns want anything to do with these murderers. Until we witness a spate of white Europeans blowing themselves up in the name of Allah, it is appallingly reckless to insist that American security officials regard indigenous Belgians with the same level of suspicion as that warranted by Moroccans or Saudis. Race and religion don’t justify internment, but combined with other suspicious characteristics, they justify further investigation.
