A Jewish Law Student in Germany
I think I'm a good bit more haunted by the past than this law student is; I see how the reaching out that she does is important and necessary, but I don't know if I could handle it myself.
In any event, it's an interesting thing to think about.

I try not to blame the sons for the sins of their fathers.

So do I, Ian. I just don't pretend that it's easy.

Well, it's better than it was in the 1970s. My father spent time in Germany then and said that you would see 50 or 60 year old men on the street and have to wonder where they were and what they were doing during the war. Now you don't see people directly implicated in the war, so while something odd still lingers, that visceral wariness isn't present. Still maybe weird, but not as bad as it was.
