P
eriodically I get these official-looking emails purporting to be from PayPal, telling me that I absolutely have to go to a website and leave my credit card and checking account information in order to remain an active PayPal member.

Obviously, they're scams.

But here's the thing. This is the language of the most recent one I got:

In order to operate the PayPal service and to reduce the risk of fraud, PayPal Corp. will ask you monthly to provide us information about yourself and your credit card and/or bank account. The Privacy Policy describes the information we collect and how we use that information.

Unable to do so may result to abnormal account behavior during transactions and a suspended account.

"Unable to do so may result to abnormal account behavior?"

Very convincing, that.
