Having experienced firsthand the attitudes of some park rangers, I'm not suprised that some of them get assaulted.
Me and friend, standing beside parked car, observing the milky way and watching for meteors at a dark sky spot in a park. Holding binoculars.
Ranger arrives and parks car with bright lights pointing directly at us, ruining our night vision.
Ranger: "What are you doing?" ( no "hello", no greeting of any kind )
Me: "Looking for meteors."
Ranger: *Grunt.* laughs. "Had anything to drink tonight?"
Me: "No, I don't drink. Neither does my friend."
Ranger: *Grunt* "uh huh. Smoking anything?"
Me: "No sir."
Ranger "Uh huh.. You mind if I look inside your vehicle?"
Me: "Yes, I do mind. What are we doing that would give you cause to search my car?"
Ranger: " You got something to hide?" ( Ranger is pointing his flashlight into the car and craning his head around, trying to see if there is any possible thing that he could use as an excuse to dive intoi the car )
Me: "No, but that's not a reason for you to search the car."
Ranger: "Yeah, but I don't need a reason to tell you to get out of the park, and I'm going to do just that. We don't want your kind around here."
And so on...
